Stripefest
Stripefest – London 30 September 2018
Today was the second Stripefest this tour. The first was held in Manchester last week with Bridget and Ruth. Today Doppelbandy and I went to London Stripefest with Bridget and Vivien.
We went for a stroll to Carnaby St and Chinatown
before continuing on to Camden Markets...
None of us were game enough to try this…
Stripefest – Norwich 2016
Yesterday was Stripefest day in Norwich – a long day! We left about 7.30 am as we needed to be at Liverpool Street station by 9.30 and had to travel across London by train. When we left the hotel, one tube line we wanted to travel on was suspended so it looked as if we would have to change a few times to get there. Luckily by the time we reached Waterloo the Waterloo and City line was working and it only took us about 15 minutes to get from Waterloo to Liverpool Street station so we were there I plenty of time.
We travelled with Abellio East Anglia trains for the first time, an interesting experience as the elderly train lurched from station to station, and worse still no Wifi!!!!

Norwich was a wonderful surprise with some lively buildings. We were met by Brigid and Nigel who took us for a tour of their town

The cathedral has an interesting mix of old and new stained glass windows
The cathedral also has a memorial for Nurse Edith Cavell who was executed by the Germans during WW 1.
A stop at the pub for lunch and then some more sightseeing...

The trip home was better, a more modern train with wifi. We arrived back in London about 9 pm after a busy but fun filled day of sightseeing and pub crawling…
Stripefest 2015 – Wednesday 5 August
Wednesday was quite a busy day. Peter and I were on nursery duty first thing so that Tan and Tas could take Eddie to hospital to have grommets inserted. Two other momentous events were also happening the 4th annual Stripefest and a 24 hr tube strike that commenced at 6.30 pm.
For the past few years I have been catching up with some people that I met online. We all have striped animals so are the Stripies.
DoppelBandy with Zebbie, Scary Tiger and a ring in the budgie. Scary seemed quite smitten. missing was Dunkie the donkey who couldn’t get time off to cross the Irish Sea.
This year’s Stripefest meeting was at Camden and we took a canal tour from Paddington to the Camden lock markets. Very scenic and you really forget that you are close to the centre of such a large city.
After all the fresh air and wandering through the markets it was time for a short drinks break…
With time running out, we all had to try and get to mainline overground stations before the tube turned into a pumpkin at 6.30. Bridget and I needed to get to Liverpool Street station and had to travel across the city from west to east. We decided that we would keep going until they threw us off the tube. Luckily, they allowed existing tube services complete their journeys so we got there in one piece after all!

Stripefest 2 – 11 September 2012 Windsor, Berkshire
Many will be aware that one of my past times is to play a FB game called Fairyland and over the past three years I have met a lot of wonderful players. Some time ago I became friends with Rowan, Liz and Vivien and was invited to join the ‘Positive Thinking Takes the Chocolate Biscuit aka the Choccy Biccy Club” :). Our avatars on FL were all stripey animals:
• Rowan – Zebbie the Zebra
• Liz – Dunkie the Donkey
• Vivien – Scary Tiger
• Jan – Bandy the tabby cat
Rowan, Liz and Vivien live in the UK and some time ago Rowan and Vivien met at the London Zoo for the inaugural Stripefest. They had an absolute ball so over time we decided to hold Stripefest 2 and this time Liz and I joined Rowan and Vivien at Windsor.
The surprise of the day was the gorgeous Bandit doppelganger that was presented to me by Rowan Here are the Stripeys sitting patiently on the seat outside Windsor Castle – no doubt waiting for the humans to behave themselves!
We had a great day exploring Windsor including a 40 minute boat trip on the Thames. Here is an image of Vivien, Rowan and Liz getting into stripey mode!
It was with a lot of sadness that I left the others that afternoon – although lots of great memories for the day and planning for Stripefest 3 ahead!
